This headdress was made possible by a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. My grant project was to create headdresses representing the four elements: air, earth, fire, water. I tell the story with beads.
Neptune's Daughter is the story of water. Waves lap around the band of the headdress, causing foam (freshwater pearls). Then out of the deep rises the fin that crowns this beauty. The ribs of the fins are beaded rods that end in filigree points. This time the fish net is not for causing death but to act as a veil.
In the collection of Dr Paul Amble.
